Arriving at an ideal weight for a child can be complicated sometimes. Adults use the Body Mass Index to measure their ideal weight. But for children, this is not the case. Their ideal weight are calculated on length for age and weight for age percentile charts. Those children weighing over the 95th percentile range are considered overweight. And for those above the 85th percentile range, they are considered at risk of being overweight. However before drawing any conclusions, consult your pediatrician first. It's important to help your child maintain a healthy weight because that will contribute to a healthy adult weight. However, it's also important that you take things in moderation. Constantly weighing your child and becoming fanatical about keeping his weight on target can do more harm than good. A little common sense can go a long way when deciding on matter regarding your child weight. Be a good role model and encourage your child to exercise regularly. Also provide him or her with a nutritious diet so that they can have a healthy lifestyle. You can't expect for your child to change her lifestyle while you keep the same unhealthy one. When you work to keep the whole family healthy, your child will be more likely to have a healthy weight.
